She likes to read fact books about topics she likes (i.e. flowers) or skills she wants to learn (i.e. cooking), but lately, she’s been reading more mystery novels to go along with her new job.
Kyouka was a healthy child who didn’t get sick often–the occasional cold and she got the flu maybe once, but her immune system took care of the rest.
Her parents home-schooled instead of sending her to an actual school because they didn’t want her out in the public more than necessary due to their own risky professions. They weren’t always around, so sometimes she was left to study with a tutor or by herself. This, of course, only lasted until she was eleven. In the mafia, Kouyou probably taught her stuff, but otherwise, she just read on her own. She’s never thought about her opinions on the matter.
No. She’s afraid that she won’t live up to the promise that she made to the ADA, and if she has to die to keep it–well, it’s already been proven that she’s willing to do just that. Living is more favourable, but she doesn’t fear death; in fact, part of her still feels she deserves to be punished for what she did while in the mafia.

◣ ✿ ◥ Stares at him unamused until he removes his hand. What sort of child did he think she was?

◣ ✿ ◥ “Yes.” No hesitation in her voice–there was no question as to whether or not she wanted to get ice cream. Ah, but he asked if she wanted him to take her, right? The answer was still yes, even though she hardly knew him; she’d seen him around Kouyou before, but aside from slight formality, they’d never directly interacted. For the sake of politesse, she added, “Please.”

◣ ✿ ◥ Oh–what a pleasant thing to return to! She hadn’t expected anything from him despite her gift for him a few weeks ago, let alone something so well-thought out. After inspecting both items, she set the cake aside for later and sat the rabbit against some books on her desk so that it could supervise the rest of her work, which wouldn’t take very long.
Afterwards, she’d look into getting the rabbit a tiny gun holster and trench coat (that offer from Kouyou was still on the table, so perhaps the woman could help her). She also made a mental note to ask the man what names he liked best.

◣ ✿ ◥
“Thank you very much.” These were going to be gone by midnight, nothing more than a pleasant memory (and better that he stole one, considering that she wouldn’t have given him one had he asked).

◣ ✿ ◥ She squeezes his hand while it’s in hers, mouthing, “Thank you,” back at him before he leaves. Once he’s gone, she shuts the window and pads back to her bed before sitting down and opening the box–and ah, it’s familiar, a silver necklace with a rabbit pendant, something that appears to be rather expensive. She received something remarkably similar earlier in the day from someone who used to be remarkably close to Chuuya, and she decides that it’s a coincidence; the selection of rabbit-themed jewelry probably isn’t great, so they must’ve just happened to see the same thing.
Either way, she’s going to wear both of them at the same time.

◣ ✿ ◥
“It’s mine,” she confirmed with a nod, reaching out to take the offered present. “Thank you, Dazai-san.” And without further ado, she went about unwrapping the box to see the present inside it.

◣ ✿ ◥ Had it not been her birthday (and Kouyou), coming into contact with someone from the mafia would have been far more concerning, but considering who and how the woman was, Kyouka figured that her intentions were just that: to make sure she had a pleasant day. “Boiled tofu from Tachibana Restaurant would be nice,” she reported, “and looking for accessories for my rabbits too.” After all, she didn’t mind having Kouyou dote on her for just one day if it meant getting free things.

◣ ✿ ◥ Kyouka didn’t expect anything spectacular to await her when she entered the office after filing paperwork, but oh, was she wrong about that. What she saw upon walking in was grand, amazing, a gift from the heavens themselves. She had plenty of rabbit toys; however, she didn’t have one that moved or made noises. It reminded her of the short few days she had a real rabbit to look after.
Eyes glittering (and apparently blind to Dazai’s presence in favour of the toy), she approached the rabbit and knelt down next to it, reaching out a hand to pet it as though it were real. After a moment, and without looking up, she asked, “Can I keep it?”

◣ ✿ ◥ With a forlorn expression replacing her usual stoic face, the girl stared down at the rabbit in her lap–a real, live, breathing thing, not like the one dangling from her phone or resting in her bed. It had been a few days since she found it injured nearby where she trained during the day, and now that it had a chance to heal up, her guardian insisted that she release it.
“It’s a wild animal,” the woman had told her. “It doesn’t belong in captivity.” Kyouka understood the sentiment, sort of. But she was a child, not an adult like Kouyou said. She wanted to argue, yet by then, she knew it’d do no good. Kouyou had been generous in letting her nurse the animal back to health in the first place; in the back of her mind, the girl knew from the start that she couldn’t keep it.
The rabbit squirmed. Kyouka loosened her grip when she realised she’d been holding on too tightly before sighing and nudging the animal off her lap. It seemed to take the hint, and, with only a single glance back, began hopping away. Back to its own life. She hoped it would be a happy one.
